What do UK Coin collectors think about this release?
There have already been some interesting and funny comments on Twitter about this release from UK coin collectors.
Some see it just as a commercial enterprise and struggle to keep up with the cadence of new coin releases from The Royal Mint. Of course it’s been a major moment in history for the UK with the Jubilee and soon after sad death of our Queen and now the coronation of King Charles. It’s important to mark these historic events for future generations, and Royal Mint coins are a great way to do that. We still have the coin that was released for the 1977 Silver Jubilee of the queen that was given out in schools. Not valuable but still, a treasure.
Other comments include:
I don’t remember seeing him (King Charles) in the movies – ha!
Will we really see Darth Vader on one side and King Charles on the other of a UK coin – interesting thought!
This is the first time, the original Star Wars trilogy will be celebrated on official UK coins as part of a brand-new, four-coin collection.? ?
The Royal Mint has released “Medal Covers” previously which where BU medals packaged with stamps on envelopes.

Star Wars was partially filmed in England and released in December 1977. Only the “Grease” movie caused more excitement, as everyone went to see this new level of special effects and the now infamous, scrolling text at the start with a terrifying Star Destroyer space ship rolling into view.
