There are currently lots of people visiting our website to view the memorial collection for Her Late Majesty. As Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, there are many people who would like a memento of her 70-year reign to pass down through generations. The 50p and £5 BU, Silver, and Gold Proof coins are unlimited and will be available during less busy times until 31 December 2022.
 
Each UK £5 and 50p coin, along with the one-ounce platinum, one-ounce gold, one-ounce silver, and quarter-ounce gold Proof coin in the collection, will run from Monday, 3 October 2022 until Saturday, 31 December 2022.

King Charles III 50p coin has also been unveiled ahead of release into general circulation later this year – meaning you will be able to find it in your pocket change.

9.6 million King Charles 50p coins will enter circulation in December 2022.

King Charles III 50p

A new 50p design featuring an image of King Charles III has been unveiled by the Royal Mint and will enter circulation by the end of the year.

Nicola Howell, chief commercial officer at the Royal Mint, is reported to have told the news: “We expect customers will start to be able to receive the commemorative range from October, and then we expect the 50p memorial circulating coin to be appearing in people’s change probably from December.

The first coins to feature King Charles III Effigy

The King’s effigy, which received the personal approval of Charles, was created by sculptor Martin Jennings. As is tradition, the King’s portrait will face to the left, the opposite direction from Queen Elizabeth II. Chris Barker, of the Royal Mint Museum, said: “Charles has followed that general tradition that we have in British coinage, going all the way back to Charles II actually, that the monarch faces in the opposite direction to their predecessor.

The design will start to appear on circulating and commemorative coins produced over the coming months.

The Royal Mint, based in Llantrisant, south Wales, has depicted the royal family on coins for over 1,100 years, documenting each monarch since Alfred the Great.

Why do some of the coins in the collection have unlimited mintages?

As the memorial coin has been designed to celebrate Her Late Majesty’s life and reign, we want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to add a coin to their collection to remember the moment and pass down through generations – nopublished mintage figures at present. They will be set at a later date.
