The Royal Mint makes an 8KG Lunar Tiger Gold Coin

To celebrate Chinese New Year, a team of master craftspeople at The Royal Mint in the UK have produced the largest ever coin in our Shēngxiào Collection – an 8-kilo gold proof coin.

They captured the process behind this beautiful fusion of British craftsmanship with an age-old Chinese tradition.

The Year of the Tiger

The main traits of people born in the Year of the Tiger are braveness, competitiveness, impulsiveness, and self-confidence.

They are known for their charm and are popular with others. Tigers work enthusiastically and confidently express themselves, dominantly doing things.

They are commanding and very rarely go back on what they have said or judged. Their great confidence and courage mean that people born in the Year of the Tiger are competent leaders. They will not make preparations for anything, preferring to handle any situation or problem that faces them straight on.

Due to their wary nature, Tigers do not like to communicate with others and they are prone to using authoritative means to deal with relationships. Even though they are acquainted with a lot of people, they do not often extend their friendship so that they become overly close to others.

The tiger is the third animal in the cycle of the Chinese zodiac and has huge significance in Chinese traditions and folklore.

Considered the ‘king of beasts’ in Chinese culture, it is said that the written character for king – ‘王’ – originates from the pattern on the tiger’s head and today, it is a popular surname.
