Gruffalo’s Child 50p coin from The Royal Mint. is a new UK coin celebrating two decades of the timeless children’s tale The Gruffalo’s Child.
Gruffalo’s Child 50p Coin
Released on Wednesday 28th August 2024 at 9am on The Royal Mint website. This is a collector’s only coin and will be be found in your pocket change form the shop.
This is the first Gruffalo coin to feature the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
The Gruffalo was previously celebrated by The Royal Mint in 2019 with the 2019 Gruffalo 50p coin and The Gruffalo and Mouse 50p coin.
Curiously the images from the original story book show that Gruffalo has four toes (claws) yet the footprints in the snow only show three!
Maybe this was done due to the limited space on the coin.
The coin is likely to be released in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU), Coloured-BU, silver and gold limited editions.
A Monstrous Milestone
Dated 2024, this commemorative coin celebrates the 20th anniversary of The Gruffalo’s Child, which was first published in 2004.
The Gruffalo Returns
This is the Royal Mint’s first Gruffalo release since 2019 and our first Gruffalo coin to feature the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
