David Bowie coins are for coin collectors and will not be entering UK coin circulation.

Celebrating a Starman, David Bowie was a star who seemingly fell to earth. The third coin in the exciting Music Legends collection celebrates his remarkable legacy.

Treasure a master of rock ‘n’ roll reinvention, whose experiments in sound and style transcended generations.

David Bowie

David Bowie was born on the UK in January 1947 and was officially named David Robert Jones. Known professionally as “David Bowie” he renamed himself after the 19th-century American pioneer James Bowie and the knife he had popularised as it “cuts both ways”.

Sadly, David Bowie died from liver cancer in New York on the 10th of January 2016 two days after his 69th birthday and the release of the album Blackstar.

A British singer-songwriter and actor. He was a leading figure in the music industry and is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.

Bowie was a self-described “pop star” and glam rock legend.

During his fifty-year career, he was the creator of music genres and alter-egos (Ziggy Stardust), the opener of debates on sexuality and politics, and a highly intelligent entrepreneur, the artist more than deserves his place in the Hall of Fame.

Bowie has sold over 100 million records.

  • Under Pressure
    • His glam rock collaboration with Queen in 1981 was a match made in heaven; becoming the group’s second UK number one, and Bowie’s third.
  • Let’s Dance
    • This dance anthem from 1983, was his fourth number-one; and its popularity stood the test of time – it has since been sampled by Puff Daddy and Craig David.
  • Dancing in the Streets
    • Bowie’s final UK number one was a cover of Martha & The Vandellas classic Dancing in the Streets alongside rock star Mick Jagger. The charity single raised money for LiveAid 1985 and spent four weeks at the top of the UK charts.
