The reverse design of this £2 UK coin features a beautifully detailed portrait of Dame Vera as she appeared during the height of her fame.
A coin for the original forces sweetheart! Dame Vera Lynn raised spirits during the turbulent times of WW2 and this £2 coin has been designed to celebrate her national treasure status.
Alexander Graham Bell is famous for being the inventor of the telephone in 1876. It would have been unimaginable during his lifetime that one day millions of people would be carrying a telephone everywhere they go!
Why is it called a telephone dial?
Early telephones used to have a rotary dial (which is why we say “dial their number”) that was later replaced by a push-button design. It was much quicker since you didn’t have to want for the dial to return to zero after each number.
The coin reverse design by Henry Gray depicts a push-button telephone along with the words PIONEER OF THE TELEPHONE inscribed on the buttons.

The reverse design has the initials N.P. after the graphic designer Natasha Preece.
