D-Day 50p

The D-Day 50p was issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings from 1944 to 1994.

Designed by John Mills, the coin depicts the Allied invasion force heading for the beaches of Normandy, France and filling the sea and sky.

It has a large number “50” with the word “pence” underneath.

The Obverse of the coin has the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf and is dated 1994.

For the more serious coin collector, The Royal Mint issued a Silver Proof (regular and Piedfort).

The Piedfort version weighs 27 grammes and had an issue limit of 10,000 silver coins.

Silver Proof Coins are in a small red presentation box, the Peidfort version box is blue!

Should include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) card, as per the example above – not individually numbered.

Silver Proof coins are sometimes listed on eBay but sell quickly.

This is a very popular coin to have in any British Coin Collection so no items may be currently available for sale.
