What does the UK Remembrance Day commemorate?
Remembrance Sunday, in the United Kingdom, holiday held on the second Sunday of November that commemorates British service members who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I.
Traditionally, a two-minute period of silence is observed throughout the country at 11 AM, and church services and other ceremonial gatherings take place during the day.
A nationally televised remembrance service, generally attended by politicians, religious leaders, military personnel, and members of the British royal family, has been held for decades at the Cenotaph monument in central London.
Remembrance Sunday is observed in the United Kingdom on November 14th in the year 2021.
Made to Honour Those That Served
During the First and Second World Wars, people from the Commonwealth answered the United Kingdom’s call, serving with distinction on land, at sea, and in the air. This year’s Remembrance Day coin honours their contribution and pays tribute to those who worked, fought, and died for the Allied cause thousands of miles from home.
Developed in collaboration with https://www.iwm.org.uk/ (IWM), The Remembrance Day 2021 UK £5 Coin features a reverse design created by the acclaimed artist Gary Breeze. Alongside symbolic red poppies, the coin carries an inscription from the famous fourth stanza of Laurence Binyon’s enduring poem ‘For the Fallen’, a tribute to those who died during the First World War.
Available in silver Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated editions, the range also includes a prestigious silver Proof Piedfort edition. Together, these coins provide a poignant tribute to all who served in both world wars.
