The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 50p coins release from The Royal Mint
The Royal Mint has released a new range of coins to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The coins are available in a variety special edition coins, including a gold proof coin and a silver proof coin. These 50p coin will not be found in general circulation.

The Book
- The book is about four children named Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy who discover a magical wardrobe that leads them to the land of Narnia.
- Narnia is a frozen, wintry land that is ruled by the evil White Witch.
- The children meet a lion named Aslan, who is the true king of Narnia.
- Aslan helps the children to defeat the White Witch and restore peace to Narnia.
- The children eventually return to their own world, but they know that they can always go back to Narnia through the wardrobe.

The second book in C. S. Lewis’ classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, tells the story of the Pevensie siblings as they step through a wardrobe and enter the magical realm of Narnia.
Part of our classic children’s literature series, this UK 50p coin pays tribute to Lewis’ masterpiece and its reverse features an illustration by Pauline Baynes from the original publication of the book.
