Through the Looking-Glass
Through the Looking-Glass Coins
Through the Looking-Glass coins are the second release in the Alice In wonderland coin series, new from The Royal Mint for 2021 UK Coins.
Alice In Wonderland Coins
2021 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Through the Looking-Glass, the highly anticipated sequel to the universally adored Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This follows the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland coins released in July 2021.
Written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under his better-known pen name Lewis Carroll, the story follows Alice on another unique and epic adventure into Looking-Glass House, where everything seems rather backwards and logic is turned on its head. The narrative continues with a stream of playful nonsense, no better epitomised than by two of the book’s most iconic characters, Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
The twins feature on the coin design, which is based on an original illustration by Sir John Tenniel that was used in the first publication of Through the Looking-Glass.
Available from 9am on the 2nd August 2021, as a one ounce and quarter-ounce gold Proof coin, a half-ounce silver Proof coin, a one ounce colour-printed silver Proof coin, a standard Brilliant Uncirculated edition, and a colour-printed Brilliant Uncirculated edition, this coin is a wonderful tribute to one of the most imaginative tales in literary history.
The two-coin series has been made in creative collaboration with the V&A. Brought to you from the Treasury of Tales, and featuring Sir John Tenniel’s original illustrations from the books’ original publications, this two-coin series is a wonderful celebration of Alice’s wild and whacky adventures.
