Royal Mint Security Features
The Royal Mint has been creating coins for over 1,100 years, and in 2023, its iconic Britannia coin is introducing new security features to become the most visually secure coin on the market.
The design combines a traditional interpretation of Britannia with four security features, including a trident that becomes a padlock when viewed from different angles and surface animation. The micro-text on the coin reads “Decus et Tutamen,” meaning “An ornament and a safeguard.” The new security features are available on the one ounce and one kilo silver coins, as well as various gold editions.
Bullion Coin Prices
The prices of these coins will change daily based upon the rates for precious metals. The prices listed on this page are for guidance only and you should check the Royal Mint website for the current price and availaibiloity.
The prices listed on the website for buying and selling raw vaulted metal are for unallocated metal and are standard in the bullion industry.
However, these prices do not include the costs of transportation, refining, minting, quality checking, and merchandising that must take place before a finished product can be delivered to the customer. These costs are reflected in a premium added to the spot price (buy price) which is either a percentage or fixed amount.
In summary, the price for a manufactured bullion product includes a premium to cover the costs of production.

Are these coins legal tender?
The Royal Mint creates commemorative and bullion coin series to celebrate key moments or individuals, and these are treasured for their collectable and aesthetic value, or purchased for investment opportunities. However, these non-circulating, commemorative and bullion coins are limited edition and will not enter general circulation – meaning banks and businesses are not required to accept them.
