The Woolly Rhinoceros 50p is the second coin in the Prehistoric Creatures 50p series from The Royal Mint, following the success of the Steppe Mammoth release. This coin commemorates one of the Ice Age's most formidable herbivores, known for its thick fur, stocky build, and large curved horn.
The reverse design presents the Woolly Rhinoceros charging through a windswept Ice Age landscape, with incredible attention to the textured fur and powerful stature. The coin continues the series’ use of dynamic visual effects that animate slightly when tilted.

Collector's Tip: The Woolly Rhino coin builds momentum in this prehistoric collection — keep an eye out for the upcoming third release to complete the set.
Charging out of the Pleistocene epoch, the Woolly Rhinoceros is the second prehistoric icon to feature in the Tales of the Earth: Ice Age Giants series. This 50p coin celebrates a legendary survivor that roamed the frozen mammoth steppes alongside the famous woolly mammoth.
The reverse design by acclaimed palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls captures the Woolly Rhino in its natural habitat. Known for its thick, double-layered woolly coat and its massive, sabre-like front horn, this herbivore was perfectly adapted to the harshest climates of the Ice Age.
In keeping with the Tales of the Earth tradition, the design also includes a scientifically accurate skeletal reconstruction beneath the main image, highlighting the unique ossified nasal septum that supported its heavy horns.
Collector Note: This coin was issued as a commemorative collectible and was not released into general circulation. It is a vital addition for anyone completing the three-coin Ice Age Giants set.
