Design: The reverse, designed by Gary Breeze, depicts the RRS Discovery at sea, with a map of the Antarctic region and penguins in the foreground. The obverse features the definitive portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.
Edge Inscription: The edge inscription reads "DESIGNED FOR ADVENTURE," a tribute to the ship's purpose.
Significance: This is the first time the RRS Discovery, the UK's first purpose-built scientific research ship and the last traditional wooden vessel of its kind, has been commemorated on an official UK coin. The coin marks both the 125th anniversary of the ship's launch and the centenary of the Discovery Oceanographic Expedition.
Finish: The coin is struck to a superior Brilliant Uncirculated standard, meaning it retains its original mint luster and detail, free from the scratches found on general circulation coins.
